VINCE GILL’S “I DON’T WANNA RIDE THE RAILS NO MORE” NOMINATED FOR GRAMMY Best American Roots Song
NASHVILLE – November 22, 2019 – Songwriting icon Vince Gill received his 41st Grammy nomination Wednesday when “I Don’t Wanna Ride The Rails No More” landed on the list of Best American Roots Song. The track is from Gill’s most recent critically-acclaimed album OKIE, which was released in August of this year. If awarded this Grammy it would be his 22nd win.
“The whole image of riding a train has such great beauty to it,” says Gill, who wrote the song. “It conjures images of The Grapes of Wrath, the Dust Bowl, and people hopping freight trains.” Gill continues, “This song has got to come from my experience in order to be able to put it on paper and to have it feel legit and truthful and honest. In my case it could very well be about a bus instead of a train—I’ve been riding a tour bus for 40 something years now. This is a song of reflection, yearning and hopefulness.”
One of the most popular singers in modern country music, Vince Gill is famous for his top-notch songwriting, world-class guitar playing and warm, soaring tenor, all wrapped up in a quick and easy wit. In addition to his Grammy awards, Gill has won 18 CMA Awards, including Song of the Year four times – making him the most-awarded artist in that category in CMA history. He has been awarded the prestigious BMI Icon award and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007. He is also a member of the Grand Ole Opry. In August 2012, Gill was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Gill was invited to be a touring member of the Eagles in 2017 and continues to join them on stage around the world. A recording artist for MCA Records, Gill’s current album is the critically-acclaimed “Okie.”
