The Browns Back on Charts with New All-Hits CDFabled Trio Became Superstars Via “The Three Bells"Nashville, TN — (May 29, 2008) The sweet sounds of The Browns—Maxine, Jim Ed and Bonnie—are once again swirling across America thanks to the impact of their new Collector’s Choice album, The Complete Hits Of The Browns. Released just weeks ago, the album has risen to No. 3 on the Collector’s Choice Top 10 charts, outselling such popular packages as Frank Sinatra’s Nothing But The Best and Frankie Valli’s Solo/Timeless. Unlike previous albums, this new package contains all 21 of The Browns’ major hits, including “The Three Bells,” “Here Today And Gone Tomorrow,” “Looking Back To See,” “I Take The Chance,” “The Old Lamplighter,” “Scarlet Ribbons (For Her Hair),” “Send Me The Pillow You Dream On” and “I Heard The Bluebirds Sing.” Accompanying the album are archival photos of The Browns and detailed liner notes from the eminent country music historian, Colin Escott, who won a Grammy for producing the album The Complete Hank Williams. Formed in their native Arkansas in the early 1950s, The Browns went Top 10 in 1954 with their first single, “Looking Back to See.” They became regular cast members of the Louisiana Hayride just in time to welcome Elvis Presley to that historic live radio show. For the next two years, they toured with Presley. Later, they moved on to The Ozark Jubilee network television show and from there to the Grand Ole Opry. In 1959, The Browns became one of the most in-demand acts in music via their recording of “The Three Bells.” The song was No. 1 for 10 weeks on the country charts and topped the pop charts for four weeks. It even climbed to No. 10 on the rhythm & blues listing. The song also earned The Browns guest appearances on such wildly popular TV programs as The Ed Sullivan Show and American Bandstand and transformed them into an international sensation. The fabled trio disbanded in 1967—the sisters intent on raising their families and Jim Ed determined to carve out a solo recording and performing career. But the siblings continue to reunite periodically to sing on the Grand Ole Opry and appear on PBS specials. Maxine Brown chronicled The Browns’ remarkable life in show business in her bestselling memoir, Looking Back to See, from the University of Arkansas Press. Collector’s Choice Music albums are available by catalog and through the company’s website, http://www.ccmusic.com/.
